Michael Moore on the killing of OBL

Michael Moore may get a bit too smart-arsey in his movies, but this piece on the killing of Osama Bin Laden is worth reading.

Perhaps there was no way to bring him back alive – I sure as hell wouldn’t want to be in that dark house trying to make that snap decision. But if the execution was ordered in advance, then I say we should be told that now, and we can like it or not like it.

I recommend the whole thing.

  1. Just the usual simplistic nonsense from US millionaire businessman Moore. The Nuremburg trials didn’t begin until the war was over. While hostilities were still ongoing, Axis soldiers, officers and officials were killed without trial. Does Moore believe that Heydrich or Yamamoto should have been given a trial before they were targeted for killing?

Stephen: In announcing this death, Obama didn’t talk about it as an act of war, but as delivering justice. I’m not so sure Moore is being simplistic here.

  3. Not quite:
“We quickly learned that the 9/11 attacks were carried out by al-Qaida – an organization headed by Osama bin Laden, which had openly declared war on the United States and was committed to killing innocents in our country and around the globe. And so we went to war against al-Qaida to protect our citizens, our friends, and our allies.”

Ok, Stephen, not quite. But it’s either an act of war or an act of justice, isn’t it? At least a just war has been a contradiction in terms for some time now, hasn’t it?

What do you think?
