Verse: To a nephew on being sworn in as a judge in the local court of New South Wales
Favour, fear, illwill, affection –
none of these must bind or guide
the mind of one whom tough selection
process chooses to preside
in jabot, robe and grave demeanour
in the court. An oath to queen, or
rather king, is duly sworn.
And lo! A brand new judge is born.
After decades in the trenches
practising your lawyer's art,
coming home with aching heart,
now's your time to sit on benches.
Matters small / of great import,
you be the judge, so please the court.
